4 Heavy Can’t-Miss Sets at EDC Mexico 2024

With EDC Mexico starting today in Mexico City, we took a look at four of the most interesting sets going on this weekend at this highly-anticipated festival.

Insomniac Events and Electric Daisy Carnival is the most iconic EDM festival brand in North America. While we’ve frequented their events in Las Vegas, Orlando, and Chicago over the last 10+ years, we’re traveling to Mexico City to check out EDC Mexico 2024.

Every EDC has a stacked and stellar lineup, and EDCMX is no different. With familiar stages like Kinetic Field, Circuit Grounds, Stereo Bloom, Neon Garden, and several art cars, the lineup combines both worldwide touring artists and local acts from Mexico. Some of the most famous artists performing at EDC include Carl Cox, Alesso, David Guetta, Alan Walker, Armin van Buuren, Marco Carola, Nina Kraviz, Richie Hawtin, Zedd, and many more. While there’s plenty of artists to get excited for on the lineup, we dove deeper into four of our most-anticipated acts below.

Deadmau5 (DNB set), Friday 9-10 PM, WasteLAND

Deadmau5 is an electronic music legend dating back to the early 2000s. A true innovator of the scene, some of his most iconic songs include “Ghosts N Stuff”, “Some Chords”, and “The Veldt”. He has been heavily touring the festival circuit the last few years with Kaskade as Kx5. However, a lesser-known side of deadmau5 is his interest in drum n bass. At his Day of the Deadmau5 tour in Chicago last Halloween, we saw an absolutely unforgettable deadmau5 set. The first half included his classic songs and newer tunes, while most of the second half was heavy underground drum n bass before ending with “Strobe”. We’ll have Shazam ready for this hour-long deadmau5 DNB set.

Showtek (Hardstyle exclusive), Friday 12-1 AM, WasteLAND

Showtek is a Dutch electronic music duo with a career that also goes back several decades. While they’re now well known for their iconic big room hits like “Cannonball” and “Booyah” and their recent success in the dance pop genre, they were the undisputed kings of hardstyle in the 2000s. Their 2007 track “FTS” is one of the genre’s greatest hits. Showtek has recently been experimenting with hard dance once again, recently releasing songs like “Legends” with Sub Zero Project and “XTC” with Wildstylez. Seeing a hardstyle set from Showtek is something we’ve always wanted to experience, and that will become a reality at EDC Mexico 2024. They recently performed similar sets at Qlimax in the Netherlands and Basscon Festival in Southern California.

Klangkuenstler, Saturday 6-7 PM, NeonGARDEN

Berlin-based techno DJ/producer Klangkuenstler is famous for his pummeling, driving techno DJ sets. He made our most-anticipated artists list at Movement Detroit last year, and his closing set at the festival was a highlight. Klangkuenstler will take the stage early at Neon Garden this Saturday, performing before techno heavyweights like Sara Landry and Deborah De Luca. Similar to other techno artists like SPFDJ, Klangkuenstler is a selector who is known more for his live sets rather than his released music. While his last official release came over a year ago, he has only gained traction in the music scene since. Expect high BPMs and high energy techno with a distinct European feel as the sun sets at Neon Garden on Saturday.

Skrillex, Sunday 12:30-2 AM, CircuitGROUNDS

Closing out the festival on Sunday at Circuit Grounds is none other than Skrillex. While he brought EDM and dubstep into the mainstream years ago, Skrillex has largely moved away from “brostep” and experimented with bass and hip-hop influenced music recently. His 2023 album Quest For Fire was well-received by critics across all genres of music. We attended his 5-hour set at Red Rocks last year, and while that experience didn’t completely blow us away, a 90-minute set from Skrillex is more appropriate for his DJing style. Skrillex also posted nearly 50 unreleased IDs on his Instagram page last week, many of which date back to his Recess and Scary Monsters days. This closing set from Skrillex will likely explore a little bit of everything, and we can’t imagine a better way to finish up the final day of EDC Mexico.
