Calvin Harris is back with more new Love Regenerator music, and we could not be happier. Rollercoaster, his latest EP with Solardo, is another top-tier house & techno release from one of modern music’s most prolific producers.
Rewind back to January 2020: Calvin Harris surprises the EDM world by revealing his Love Regenerator alias on BBC. It marked an epic return to rave music after exploring pop and hip-hop on his 2017 album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. Love Regenerator was a bit of a surprising career move for someone who was finding massive success making music with Dua Lipa, Normani, and benny blanco.
Obviously, the pandemic hit just a few months later, and the only Love Regenerator rave we could attend was in our living room via live streams. Fast forward a year later, and while COVID isn’t fully eliminated like we thought, the future of the scene is bright.
It’s an great sign for the EDM scene that Calvin Harris continues to build on his Love Regenerator project.
Prior to “We Can Come Together” with Eli Brown in August 2021, there was a full year in between new Love Regenerator track releases. Previously, “Live Without Your Love” came in July 2020, followed by a few remix packs.
Rollercoaster brings Sola headmen Solardo for two new high-energy tracks. While Love Regenerator often collaborates with Eli Brown, these are the first-ever collabs between Calvin and Solardo.
“Rollercoaster”, the title track, might be one of the best Love Regenerator songs yet.
Sampling the 1975 track “Love Rollercoaster” by Ohio Players, it’s a dancefloor slapper with a catchy bassline and well placed lyrics. “Rollercoaster” is a perfect blend of distinct Solardo ideas mixed with Love Regenerator’s production. “All of a Sudden” comes next, and it’s a bit more experimental. It’s a rave-ready tune inspired by classic electronic music.
Rollercoaster is definitely one of the our favorite house & techno releases in the second half of 2021. Let’s hope that we all get to witness our first live Love Regenerator set in 2022.
