Ōsé’s ‘Self Help’ EP is Another House Music Gem on 5150 Records

A mainstay of the Chicago house music scene, Ōsé returns to his 5150 Records imprint to drop two songs via the Self Help EP.

Ōsé is a Chicago-based house music artist with impressive consistency as a DJ/producer. Whether he’s releasing music on his 5150 Records label or on collectives like Relief (Green Velvet), Trick (Patrick Topping), Farris Wheel (Gene Farris), Arcane, and Space Yacht, Ōsé has proved that he’s here to stay in the house music scene.

Self Help is his most recent EP, with two tracks featuring the darker side of house that Ōsé has perfected. On “Self Help” and “Dave’s Rave”, Ōsé has delivered another EP on 5150 that continues his trend of self-released house and techno bangers.

Ōsé – Self Help [EP]

Self Help starts off with the powerful kick and bass pattern of the title track, leading into vocals paired with a drop influenced by minimal and tech house. “Dave’s Rave” includes elements of jackin’ house and was inspired by Ōsé’s late friend Dave, whom the EP is dedicated to.

Ōsé has supported artists like Claude von Stroke and Richie Hawtin and will be opening for Eli Brown at Prysm Nightclub in Chicago later this month. He’s been booked at EDC Orlando and North Coast Music Festival and has more event (and music) announcements on the horizon. Self Help is a solid house music release from one of the Windy City’s best hidden gems.

Self Help features two tracks, “Self Help” & “Dave’s Rave”, which I wrote while mourning the death of my late friend, Dave, whom the EP is dedicated to. My music output is directly impacted by my mood, so I typically wouldn’t think I would get much done after the death of a close friend, but I was flooded with inspiration. It felt like I was getting a bit of a helping hand from Dave throughout the writing process.”
