SIDEPIECE Return to Toolroom Records with “Lick” [INTERVIEW]

Bass and tech house duo SIDEPIECE tell us more about “Lick”, their latest single and second original track on the legendary Toolroom Records.

SIDEPIECE has been a driving force in the house music scene ever since releasing their first song in 2019. Dylan Ragland and Ricky Mears are two producers who first found successful careers as solo artists and now tour the world together as SIDEPIECE.

Known for seductive tech house music with bass house influences, SIDEPIECE has paved a lane of their own. They’ve previously released songs on labels like Higher Ground, Big Beat, and Insomniac Records. “Lick” comes on the influential Toolroom Records label founded by Mark Knight. It’s the second song from SIDEPIECE on Toolroom following the release of “Sex Sells” last October.

We talked to SIDEPIECE about the release of “Lick”, working with Toolroom, and what’s on their horizon for the 2025 festival season. Stream “Lick” now and check out our latest interview with SIDEPIECE below after we previously met them at Lollapalooza.

SIDEPIECE – “Lick

PREMIER EDM: How would you describe the vibe of “Lick”, and how does it compare to your previous Toolroom Records track, “Sex Sells”?

SIDEPIECE: Short form: Lick feels like pure booty shaking bliss. 😂

Long form: It feels like a continuation of our new sound and direction. Mark Knight actually brought us the idea of using this vocal for a record and we wanted to take a unique spin on it. Toolroom has been home to some amazing records over the years and we’re gassed to have another one with them.

You recently performed at the Toolroom Pool Party during Miami Music Week. What has your relationship been like with the label, and how have they helped you grow in your career?

This is only our second release with them. But with these two releases, they have been an amazing partner, and Mark Knight is an absolute legend. Their whole team is amazing and we got to meet all of them in Miami.

What are you most looking forward to this festival season, and what’s a message you can share with your fans who are seeing your performances this summer?

Our message is…we love you and wear comfortable shoes because you’re gonna be dancing 🙂
