Maddy O’Neal’s Disco Brunch Showcased Creativity and Femininity

Feminine energy was displayed proudly as Maddy O’Neal hosted The Disco Brunch as part of a major music weekend in Chicago earlier this year. Hosted at The School House, Maddy O’Neal’s disco brunch featured a lineup of local and upcoming talents and showcased the versatility and creativity that gives live music its life.

The space felt like an art museum more than a venue, creating a unique artsy experience. With a powerful sound setup and ample space to dance and move around, the space felt both large and intimate at the same time. The lineup featured Mindy Fresh, R34L, and Megan Hamilton, who each brought a unique style and artistry to their differing sets of music. House music was on display ranging from bass, garage, and disco house, blending familiar and new sounds.

Maddy has gained traction in the bass music scenes and has been featured on many festival lineups such as Gem & Jam 2024. She has played alongside artists such as Manic Focus, The Floozies, Opiuo, and Dirtwire. Maddy is currently on her Mind Over Matter Tour and has played many of the major events around the country including North Coast Music Festival and Cascade Equinox Festival.

She has also been featuring her “MadHaus” sets, which are special shows where she showcases her love for house music. There was no better place for this than Chicago, the city where house music started. Her set was diverse and had many memorable remixes and custom edits mixed throughout. Some familiar bass songs had been reorganized to blend with her house styles and all of her music mixed together into one cohesive piece.

The Disco Brunch was clearly a time for the artists involved to have fun, experiment, and bask in their artistry and creativity. The fun they were having on stage was contagious and the energy was a perfect reminder of why the artists and attendees continue to actively involve themselves in these communities. In a world that’s constantly trying to standardize and mass produce, it’s important that artists like Maddy O’Neal continue to promote welcoming environments where creativity and artistry are at the focal point.
